PKZ300B Trojan/virus

CATEGORY: Overblown computer security threats

US DoE CIAC issued an alert about this obscure Trojan (see related link) in mid-1995. Users quickly forwarded it to each other in chain-letter fashion. In many cases they "edited" or "condensed" the alert for brevity's sake. Chain letter warnings continued long after the threat disappeared. This alert later merged with a popular hoax virus alert, creating a "hybrid" (see related link) which outlived both of its parents.
