Hackers broke into the popular Yahoo! website in December 1997 and replaced one page with a "free Kevin Mitnick or else" warning. It claimed every computer which visited Yahoo! in the last month had received a "logic bomb/worm." This deadly code would destroy every PC on Christmas Day if U.S. federal officials continued to hold hacker celebrity Kevin Mitnick.

The altered page remained online just long enough to generate a small media circus. Christmas 1997 came & went with Mitnick still in prison.
