The 56th anniversary of D(elete)-Day

Rob Rosenberger, Vmyths co-founder
Tuesday, 6 June 2000 IF YOU SERVED in the U.S. military during the Cold War era, you can augment your DD 214 with a certificate of appreciation. A special Cold War recognition website answers veterans' questions and can even take your application electronically.
U.S. military bureaucrats claim "the 'I Love You' virus infected the Cold War Recognition website..."
However, you might not receive a certificate if you applied for it in late April or early May. This notice appeared on the official website:
The "I Love You" virus infected the Cold War Recognition site, causing damage to our in-coming email account. The damage has been repaired, but all in-coming emails between April 28 through May 8, 2000 were not recovered. If you sent us an email request during this period, we recommend that you resend your email request at your earliest convenience. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Translation: "a virus ate my homework." The website also warns of a six-month backlog: "please do not request feedback prior to 6 months from [your original] request date. Thank you for your patience." Patience, indeed. Some veterans may not learn about the military's screwup until early next year...
