Network Associates rewrites the facts again (but who's counting)

Wednesday, 19 April 2000 NETWORK ASSOCIATES NOW claims Trend Micro sells no "centrally managed" antivirus products. Trend published a rebuttal worth reading. As for me, I scratched my head when I saw the ad campaign. How can they explain this snapshot of Trend's "eDoctor" report module? Centralized reporting evolves from centralized management, folks.
Network Associates claims Trend sells no "centrally managed" antivirus products. Okay then, how do they explain this snapshot? Centralized reporting evolves from centralized management, folks.
This latest PR assault began in mid-1999 when Network Associates purchased an "independent" comparison review from Ziff-Davis. Granted, you can buy favorable reviews in every major industry (e.g. the motion picture industry) — but Network Associates fixed the fight by placing the wrong Trend product in a review lineup. Trend VP Richard Sheng slammed Network Associates and Ziff-Davis in a corporate memo also worth reading. You'll notice I said "this latest PR assault." Network Associates has a long rap sheet of PR assaults against competitors, critics, and even the media. This new ad campaign really shouldn't surprise anyone. Hmmm. This particular tactic might backfire on Network Associates someday. Think of the political fallout if they suddenly claimed Israeli antivirus software doesn't exist...
