Vmyths.com: the first lost episode

Rob Rosenberger, Vmyths co-founder
Wednesday, 29 November 2000 (ILoveYou hysteria kept me incredibly busy during May & June. Like many columnists, I start writing a number of different pieces, but not all of them blossom into an editorial. Certain pieces did blossom, and I even scheduled them for publication. Sadly, they got lost in the shuffle. I stumbled over them again while researching a recent column. They're too good to throw away, so I present them here as "lost" episodes. Enjoy!)
FORTUNA POWER SYSTEMS Ltd. employee Ray Quattromini tried to drum up business less than one week after ILoveYou surfaced. I thought you might like to see his spam (shown here in verbatim):
Hi We have heard about a new Virus. The way this new Virus works is as soon as the Virus arrives in your Inbox your systems are infected. As yet no fix is available and the effects on E-mail systems will be catastrophic. This differs to all previous virus's as you have had to open these to activate them. We would be happy to quote for Backup Software that will support Lotus Notes and Exchange. So in the event of an attack at least you can restore your mail systems with the minimum of disruption.
Fearmongers want to help you plan a better backup/restore strategy...
Please be aware this e-mail is only a warning as to what people are developing. We hopes this helps you to plan a better backup/restore strategy. Regards Ray Quattromini

I phoned Quattromini about the deadly über-virus. No need to worry, he assured me — Microsoft recently plugged the hole with a security patch. Whew, thank goodness!
