Symantec vs. McAfeeNetwork Associates, part 2

Rob Rosenberger, Vmyths co-founder
Tuesday, 30 December 1997 SYMANTEC FAILED TO get a preliminary injunction against the sale of VirusScan & PC Medic. The judge's decision should surprise nobody, but I guess you can't blame Symantec for trying. After all, this is a country where you can win millions if you spill a coffee cup while driving. McAfeeNetwork Associates issued a gleeful press release announcing Symantec's failure to force their products off store shelves. Elated by the ruling, they even claimed they would drop their $1 billion defamation countersuit. VP Peter Watkins hopes Symantec "will receive this gesture with the good will with which it is intended." Of course, this "gesture" might lead Symantec to issue another two-paragraph press release saying Network Associates dropped a frivilous lawsuit. They could easily re-issue the old press release with a few changes. Hmmmm. I wonder how (or even if) Symantec will describe this judicial ruling in their litigation timeline...?
