Truth About Computer Security Hysteria

10/9/00 clarification

Vea Culpa, Corrections editor
Monday, 9 October 2000 One of John McAfee's lieutenants (name withheld by request) contested part of Rob Rosenberger's editorial:
John McAfee left McAfee Associates because of health reasons. His leaving had nothing to do with him being "demoted" (as President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board, and majority stockholder, it would have been difficult, bordering on impossible, for anyone to push him out), but rather getting out of there so he could recuperate. By the way, John sold his interest in Tribal Voice to CMGI in November of last year.
Rosenberger heard the health rumors in the 1990s, and — more to the point — McAfee Associates went through an incredible post-Michelangelo growth phase, possibly as a direct result of all the media-bred hysteria. However, Rosenberger stands by the opinions in his editorial. He believes McAfee slowly got pushed out after the Michelangelo debacle. Health problems would have only made it easier for others to wear him down.
